Jackie Stewardson, 86, of Abilene, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Coleman, Texas on September 24, 1927, Jackie was the daughter of Berta Lee (Riley) and A.P. Duncan. She graduated from Doole High School in McCullough County, Texas, and received her Associate Degree in Accounting from Draughn’s Business College in 1946. In November of 1964, she moved from San Angelo, Texas to Abilene. In 1994 she retired as Administrator for Abilene Diagnostic Clinic for which she had worked for 24 years.
On January 19, 1950 in Coleman, Texas, Jackie married Virgil L. Stewardson.
Jackie loved her grandkids and no matter what the weather was like, she always made it to their sporting events. She was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. She was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ in Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of over 64 years, Virgil Stewardson of Abilene; daughter, Patti Jo Mendenhall and husband Craig of Abilene; sister, Deloroes Guice of Coleman; two grandchildren, Megan Sunderman and Matt Mendenhall both of Lubbock; and one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Sunderman.
The private graveside service will be Saturday, June 28, in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Southern Hills Church of Christ in the Chapel with Danny Minton and Bill Brant officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 27, at the funeral home.
