Jackie Dunlap, 72, of Fort Phantom Lake, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at his residence. Service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Fort Phantom Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Bradford officiating, with burial to follow in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Jackie was born to parents Robert Cecil Dunlap and Hyla Vee Arnold Dunlap May12, 1933 in Dunlap, New Mexico. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. He was a PBX and Teletype repairman for Mountain Bell Telephone for 27 years. He was self-employed for 10 years and later worked for Furr's Supermarket as a truck driver. He married Dorothy Leatherwood in Ranchville, New Mexico in 1952. Jackie moved to Abilene July 4, 1990 from Socorro, New Mexico. He was a member of Fort Phantom Baptist Church.
Jackie was preceded in death by his adoptive father A.V. "Blue" Tate, both parents and one great grandson Trevor Cole Taylor.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Dunlap from the Fort Phantom Lake area, his adoptive mother Lorene Tate of Clovis, New Mexico; one son Kenny Dunlap of Fort Worth; one daughter Annette Taylor and her husband Don; one adopted brother, Larry Tate of Clovis, New Mexico; one sister Betty Dunlap of Clovis, New Mexico; one adopted sister Carolyn Harris of Clovis, New Mexico; three granddaughters, Crystal McCall of Hereford, Texas, Tabitha Ozuna and her husband Gus of Hereford, Texas, Deedra Fuller and her husband Duane of Clovis, New Mexico; two grandsons, Dewey Taylor of Clovis, New Mexico; Kip Taylor and his wife Natalie of Abilene, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous friends and relatives.
