Jack Guitar Woods, 88, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016, in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander, with The Rev. N. Luke Back officiating. The inurnment will follow in the columbarium at the church. Cremation arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Jack G. Woods was born in Abilene, Texas, the son of the late Dennis Woods and Catherine Guitar Woods, on November 24,1927. He graduated from Abilene High School and received a degree from Abilene Christian University. He married Kay Cathey in 1954. Jack worked as a food broker for 35 years in Lubbock, Texas. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having attained the rank of Corporal. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis E. Woods, Jr. and sister, Laura Hudson Woods Gall. Jack is survived by his daughter, Kelly Woods Leach and husband Robert, and children Bonnie Hill and son-in-law Andrew Hill, and Abby Leach; and son, Jack Guitar Woods, Jr. (Jay), and children, Cole, Julian and Stella Woods. Jack is also survived by his friend and companion, Rita Turkett. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Heavenly Rest Episcopal, 602 Meander, Abilene, TX 79602; Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory St., Abilene, TX 79601; or the charity of your choice.
