Jack W. Townsley
Jack Townsley, 80, passed away Monday, December 26, 2005 in Abilene. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 29 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Rev. H.B. Terry officiating. Burial will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Jack was born January 26, 1925 in the Iberis community to Arthur Douglas Townsley and Mary West Floyd Townsley. He attended Wylie Schools. From 1941 to 1950, Jack served in the United States Navy. On June 7, 1952 he married Elizabeth Habinowski in Breckenridge, Texas. From 1952 until 1957 he worked as a Union Plumber before joining the United States Air Force in 1957, where he served as Technical Sergeant before retiring in 1969. He graduated from McMurry University with a BA degree in 1976. He was a native of Abilene and a Baptist. Jack was a lifetime member of the American Legion, DAV, VFW, NCOA and Texas County of Veterans Service Officers Association.
Jack was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother A.D. Townsley. He survived by his wife Elizabeth Townsley, his daughter Joanna Elizabeth Townsley; his sister, Doris Bell of San Angelo; and seven nephews, Vic and Danny Bell, Billy, Marshall, James, Gary and Larry Townsley. He is also survived by his beloved dogs Taffy and Pepper. The Veterans of Taylor County will serve as honorary pallbearers.
