Jack L. Smithson, 84, died Sunday, October 6, 2013 at his residence in Potosi. Born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on July 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Ella (Forrister) and Auther Smithson. Jack graduated from high school in Cabiness, OK before attending college two years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a member of North Side Baptist Church in Abilene. Jack retired from Southwestern Bell and AT & T after a 30-year career. He also worked for Coca Cola, Pride Refinery and Key Enterprises after retirement. Jack married Evelyn Rae Edwards on August 8, 1964 in Abilene. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Smithson of Abilene; two sons, Ronald Lee Smithson and wife Nancy of Springfield, Missouri, and Darrell Wayne Smithson of Austin. Texas; daughter, Mary Jaleen Waxler and husband Jim of Joplin, Missouri; brother, Ed Smithson of Euless, Texas; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Dr. Don Greenway will officiate. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Pear Valley Cemetery near Lohn, Texas in McCulloch County. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to North Side Baptist Church Mission Fund, 2474 Westwood Dr., Abilene, TX 79603.
