Jack Morgan Smith, 53, of Abilene, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, October 4, 2010 at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Jack was born December 17, 1956 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Marvin and Betty Smith. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1975. Jack married his high school sweetheart Karen Kinney in March 1976. They welcomed their son Jason in August 1977 and daughter Kayla in June 1979.
Jack was a member and deacon at Southside Baptist Church and served in the Stephen's Ministry there. He also served in the local prison ministry as well as many "Walk to Emmaus" spiritual retreats. He was a dedicated Christian and loved the Lord with his life.
Jack loved life! He enjoyed attending local dirt track races, playing drums, camping and traveling. He most recently traveled with his wife and in-laws on an Alaskan cruise. He loved being "DooDad" to his three grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Marvin Smith. Jack is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karen Smith; his son Jason Morgan Smith and wife Jennifer; his daughter Kayla Slack and husband Scott; his granddaughters Madisyn Slack and Raylen Smith; his grandson Dylan Slack; and his brother Larry R. Smith and wife Sondra, all of Abilene. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other special family and friends.
Vince Ogle, Lance Shaw, Justin Shaw, Rob Poor, Thomas Martin and Dale Roys will serve as pallbearers.
