Jack Wade Qualls, 97, longtime Abilene home builder, entered his Heavenly home on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Wesley Court. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Southern Hills Church of Christ, 3666 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas, with Jackie V. Qualls, grandson, officiating. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 12 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Jack was born on September 25, 1920 in Jacksboro, Texas to Hugh B. and Josephine Brown Qualls. Raised in Benjamin, Texas, he had a happy life with his large family. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force at Lubbock Army Air Base. He married Jennie B. Trigg on May 22, 1944 in Seagraves, Texas. Sergeant Qualls distinguished himself in the Army Air Force, serving during WWII in Grottaglie, Italy until 1945.
Upon returning home, Jack taught High School and served as Principal at the Munday Texas High School. In 1948, they moved to Abilene and Jack began his construction business. Jack and Jennie were blessed with 6 children, a son, Jackie, and five daughters, Melinda, Martha, Myra, Maria and Marla.
Jack constructed the Southern Hills Church of Christ building in 1964 and was a founding member where he faithfully served for many years. He is survived by his 6 children, 5 sons-in-law, 15 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, one grandson and his daughter-in-law.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Jack loved God and was a builder of buildings and of people. Jack and Jennie established a great legacy of faith in Jesus for many generations.
