Jack Pickett
Papa slipped from our arms into Jesus’s arms at 4:50 pm on Monday, February 29, 2016, in Buffalo Gap, Texas at the age of 83. He was born on March 31, 1932, in Del Rio, Texas. He was a graduate of Tivy High School and served in the US Navy. He later sold shoes to many women at The Bootery in Abilene during his 35-year career.
Jack married Bettye on March 31, 1971 and started the greatest love story of all time. He is in her arms now and dancing on Heaven’s floors. He loved his family, Coors, the Dallas cowboys, St. Patrick’s Day, a great party and most of all Bettye.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye; his parents, John and Olga Pickett; and his brother, Ruebin.
He is survived by children, Bob Pickett, Mike Pickett, Lonnie Arnecke, Deborah Pickett Bregoli, Robyn Van Zandt-Barrett, Lucky Siesser and fur baby Jacque; one sister; Raye Haney & husband Dub. 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Come celebrate his life in a St. Paddy’s Day fashion with a toast or two and stories of his life and love at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 5, at graveside services in Buffalo Gap Cemetery.
