Dr. Jack Herman, 84, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2006 in Abilene. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A graveside service will be at 10:00 am on Thursday at Elmwood Memorial Park, with Rev. Jim Smart officiating.
Jack was born on April 20, 1922 in O'Donnell, Texas to Marvin and Anne Herman. He moved with his family to Abilene as a child. He attended public schools in Abilene. Following serving in the Army Air Corp in WWII he returned to Abilene and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University. He married Ann Pickard in 1943 and had two children, Jimmy and Mary Anna. He attended The University of Texas Dental School in Houston, Texas. After graduation in 1956, Jack returned to Abilene and opened his dental practice, retiring in 1995. He was a 50-year member of The American Dental Society.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Ross and Odell, a sister Tina and his daughter Mary Anna. He is survived by his wife Ann, a son Jimmy (Slim) and wife Gretchen, five grandchildren; Adriane Fergus and husband Marvin, Jeffy Bartholomae and husband Alan, Aron Bryan and husband Wesley, Josh Herman, and Jacob Herman. He is also survived by three great grandchildren; Jack Fergus, Conner Fergus, and Sydney Bartholomae. The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care given to Dr. Herman from Micky New and Barbara Blassingame.
