Jack Royce Crownover, 89, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Brother Jack Ridlehoover, Rev. Stan Allcorn and Dr. Jeff Reid, of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Jack was born in Seymour, Texas to Arthur Baines and Tessie Mae Crownover on December 16, 1925. He graduated from Seymour High School. Jack married Ora Lee Ramey on March 18, 1950 in Panhandle, Texas. He worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Highway Patrolman for 35 years and retired as a Lieutenant. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, earning three bronze stars as a Corporal in the Korean War.
He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Amarillo and at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and three brothers, Earl, John and Kenneth. He is survived by his son, Joe Crownover and wife Jennifer of Waco; his daughter, Jean Ann Underwood and husband Bart of Mesquite; his grandchildren, Jeff Crownover and wife Jill of McKinney and their children, Emory, Drew and Elliott; Brian Crownover of Waco; Chad Underwood and wife Sara of Minnetonka, Minnesota and their children Owen, Anna and Caleb; and Beth Underwood of Austin. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Doris Crownover of Knox City, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Sue Ramey of Houston, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
