Jack James Chaney, 81, of Abilene died Thursday, February 19, 2009.
Born in Abilene, Texas on October 21, 1927, Jack was the son of the late Stella (Maples) and H. H. Chaney, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Abilene, where he had been self-employed in H. H. Chaney Concrete Contractors with his father and brother, H. H. Chaney, Jr.
Jack married Helen Shew on November 24, 1948 in Anson, Texas. He was a member of Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Chaney of Abilene; son, Michael Joe Chaney, M. D. and wife, Shanedel, of The Woodlands; daughters, Dixie Lee Wise and husband, Wayne, of Austin, Arkansas, and Susan Luann Hamilton and friend, Michael McLeod, of Merkel; brother, H. H. Chaney, Jr. of Abilene; sisters, Margaret Smith of Abilene, and Betty Bulloch of Corinth, Texas; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 12 nieces and nephews; 26 great-nieces and nephews and seven great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal with the Reverend Mary Glover officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bill Wise, Mark Wise, Scott Bulloch, Allen Chaney, Bobby Chaney and Bruce Butler.
