Ivy Jane Mason, affectionately known as "Miss Ivy", 74, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Eastland County, Texas on August 8, 1937, Ivy was the daughter of Gladys Ivy (Higginbotham) and James Timothy Matthews. She was a 1955 graduate of Moran High School. She worked at Abilene National Bank in Abilene prior to moving to San Antonio, where she worked for Security National Bank for nine years before returning to Abilene in 1985.
Ivy married Leroy Mason on May 11, 1976 in Dallas.
She was very active in the Fellowship Ministry at Grace Baptist Church and a former member of the Auxiliary Gideons International. She and Leroy were very involved in Bowling, and she was a member of the following - The Lady Leaguers - The Tuesday Night Mixed League - The Friday Afternoon Senior Citizens Fun Bunch.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Matthews in 1994; mother, Gladys Matthews in 2002; and daughter, Karen Riddle in 2006.
Ivy is survived by her beloved husband, Leroy Mason of Abilene; son, Van Holdbrook and wife Kathie of Clyde; and daughters, Pam Patino and husband Pab of Mineral Wells, and Tammy Gravitt of Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Survivors also include one brother, Wesley Matthews and wife Betty of Hearne, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, at Grace Baptist Church, 1036 Todd Trail in Potosi, with Rev. Chuck Reynolds officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Moran Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be D.J. Riddle, Cameron Gravitt, Jason Radford, Jesse Valentine, Justin Cathey, Tyler Radford and Tanner Radford.
