Irvin "Rich" Roy Behney, 83, of Abilene, passed away on May 17, 2013 in Abilene.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel located at 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX 79606.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Larry Millican officiating. Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery located at 7457 W. Lake Road in Abilene, Texas, with full military honors.
Irvin was born in Orwin, PA to Nathan Behney and Martha Schwalm Behney on April 12, 1930. He married Irmreta Ford on December 29, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas.
In 1947, he joined the United States Army Air Corp., now known as the United States Air Force, in Orwin, PA. The majority of his service was spent as a flight engineer on the C-130. Irvin had 28 1/2 years of service which included duty stations throughout the world. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded the Bronze Star along with numerous other awards. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force at Dyess AFB with the rank of SMSGT in 1975. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his entire family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed dearly.
Irvin was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brothers Dean and David.
Irvin is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Irmreta Behney. Their children: Phyllis and Raymond Bruton, Caroll Behney, Richard and Melissa Behney, Sally and Robert Allen. Grandchildren: Richard Bruton and Misti Norris, Lisa Bruton, Chris and Valerie Behney, Dustin Behney, Jeffrey Behney, Rusty Ott, Dalton Behney, Justin Coe, Brittany McIntyre, and his only granddaughter: Brenda Bruton and her partner Mitzi Stanton. Great Grandchildren: Cody Bruton, Marshal Bruton, Tarran Norris, Trista Norris, Tarrisa Norris, Bryson Stanton. and Sisters: Ruth Houtz and Ethel Behney of Orwin, P.A.
