Ida Mae "Sook" Griffin, 99, of Abilene, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at a nursing center in San Angelo, Texas.
Born in Eastland County, Texas on January 25, 1911, she was the daughter of Ida May (Thurman) and J. N. Jones. In 1918, she moved to Abilene where she married Carl F. Griffin on October 31, 1934. Sook worked in the drapery department at Montgomery Wards for 25 years, and at Hancock's for 3 years and Ann Lee Dress Shop for 3 years. She was a member of Northside Church of Christ in Abilene.
Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, on March 17, 1974; parents; three brothers, Andy Jones, Allen Jones and Anson Jones; grandson, Dean Smith; and daughter-in-law, Marleen Griffin.
She is survived by her son, Gary Mack Griffin of Odessa; daughters, Jo Griffin of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Karla Smith and husband Royce of San Angelo; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene officiated by her son, Gary Mack Griffin. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the donor's favorite charity.
