Hugh Bowie, 93, passed away at home in Christian Village of Abilene on Sunday, August 17, 2014.
A memorial service will be held at Christian Village at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 with Charles Sheppard of University Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Hugh was born near Stratford, Oklahoma to Gladys and William Norris Bowie on April 7, 1921. He married Freda on June 21, 1941. Soon after they married he was called to serve in WWII stationed in England with the Army Air Corps.
At the end of the war, Hugh began doing watch and jewelry repair in Vallejo, California. In 1951, he brought Freda and their daughter to Abilene where he opened a jewelry store. He remained in the jewelry business until his retirement.
Hugh was baptized at the age of 16 in Galey, Oklahoma. He had an unwavering faith until the day of his death. He was also involved in Kiwanis, the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine.
Hugh is survived by Freda, his wife of seventy three years; his daughter, Carolyn; son-in-law, Bruce Cameron; two grandsons, Scott Bowie of New York City, and David Bowie of San Diego, California; three great-granddaughters, Natalie Bowie, Briana Bowie and Summer Bowie, all of California.
