Hubert Gary Jones

1943 — November 1, 2015

Early Sunday morning, November 1, 2015, our PaPa, Hubert Gary Jones, passed from this life to his eternal life with his Heavenly Father and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by his loving family who had spent many hours with him and their Mimi during his last few weeks. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at Wylie Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4th, with Brother Donny Harbers officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas, with Terry Simmons officiating. Gary was born in Gorman, Texas February 28, 1943, on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, to Hubert Mearlyn “Rabbit” and Irma Lee Tune Jones of Rising Star, Texas. Gary grew up in Rising Star, spending many hours with his Dad and Uncle Monty in the family’s business, Jones Feed Store. This is where he never met a stranger and he learned the meaning of hard work. After graduation from Rising Star High School in 1961, Gary attended Texas Tech College in Lubbock, Texas, majoring in math and science. He received his B.S. degree from Tech in 1965. In January, 1966, Gary began a thirty-three year career with Lone Star Gas Company in Dallas, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Virginia Lynn Ramph of Garland, Texas. Gary’s first job with Lone Star Gas was in their lab on Logan Street where he spent twelve years as a chemist. In 1978, he was transferred to West Texas where he was introduced to plant operations working as Superintendent of the War Wink Plant. After two years he returned to the home offices in Dallas to supervise Pipeline and Plant Construction. In 1983, Gary returned to Monahans, Texas as Regional Manager of the West Texas region working there until 1990, when he was promoted to Southwest Regional Manager for Lone Star Gas in Abilene, Texas. In 1993, Gary and Lynn returned to the metroplex where Gary became Manager of the North Texas Regional Laboratory Services and Gas Measurement Department. Gary’s final transfer in 1997 returned him to Abilene where he was Supervisor of Southwest Operations, retiring in 1999. Gary was not only a good employee, but a mentor to many of those he supervised. Gary and Lynn were married on April 20, 1968, in Dallas, Texas. They were blessed to have almost forty-eight years together. Other survivors, his many other blessings, include his daughter Caryl Lawrence and husband Howard and their children Aubrey, Matthew, Caryn, and Colt Lawrence of Rising Star, Texas; and his son John Jones and wife Tricia of Santo, Texas, and their children Brooks Jones of Mineral Wells, Texas, Brady Jones of Abilene, Jessica Basey and her husband Carl, Brad Mullen and his wife Lisa, and Rachel Mullen, all of Mineral Wells, Texas. Great grandchildren are Elaina Basey, Jason and Casey Mullen of Mineral Wells, Texas. Gary is also survived by one sister, Sherry Weaver and her husband Covie of Sachse, Texas. Gary and Lynn have been active members of Wylie Baptist Church since February, 1998, where they have made many wonderful friends and have enjoyed serving their God alongside them. The outpouring of kindness and love from their church family has meant so much during this difficult time, and their pastor, Donny Harbers, and his wife, Sheila, have been a great source of support. Memorials may be made to Wylie Baptist Church Building Fund, 6097 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX 79606; or Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605. Our family wishes to thank all those with Hospice and those at Hendrick Medical Center who so tenderly cared for our loved one. We were also so blessed to have such caring physicians, Dr. Jeffrey Edwards and Dr. GuangQuan Zhao, who reached out to us, meeting both physical and spiritual needs.
