Howard Lee Thompson, 82, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 in a local hospital. A funeral service, with Reverend Jeff Hatcher and Reverend Sammie Ellis officiating, will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2006 in Elmwood West United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Old Runnels Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Howard was born October 26, 1923 in Carlsbad, Texas to Ira Dee and Minnie Lett Thompson. He attended schools and graduated from Winters High School. After graduation, Howard joined the U.S. Army Air Corp where he served as a bombardier during World War II. After the war, he joined Mrs. Baird's Bakery, where he worked for more than 42 years before retiring. Howard married Eunice Collinsworth February 6, 1943 in Tucson, Arizona. A wonderful, loving husband and father, he was a member of the Lion's Club, Methodist Men's Organization and an active member of The Walk To Emmaus, including its ministry at the French Robertson Prison. Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Eunice Thompson of Abilene; a son, Randall and his wife Carol Thompson of Reston, Virginia; a daughter, Judy and her husband Bob Smith of Brownwood, Texas; four grandchildren, Ronnie Smith, Mike Smith, Tami Denslinger and Susan Kent and eleven great-grandchildren.
