Dr. Howard Pete Renick, affectionately known as “Pete”, left this earth on Sunday, December 26, 2021. He was a man of many talents and interests. He was a professional geophysicist and served as Alderman on the Buffalo Gap City Council where he was in service to the town for 18 years. Pete had a big humanitarian heart, raising funds to help the poorest in Haiti, learning their language in order to connect with them. In addition to his efforts in Haiti, he also worked in Africa where he curated a museum worthy collection of African art. He was a gourmet chef, metal worker, and carpenter who loved nature and classical music, sponsoring a number of performances by the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra. He was a deeply spiritual man who understood the redeeming nature of God.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Irene Hart Renick and brother William Renick.
Pete is survived by his wife, Karen Renick; his daughter Nancy and Barry Kornstein of Louisville, Kentucky and their daughters Saralee and Willa; Laura and John Butera of Waterville, Maine and their son Pete; and Matt and Melissa Renick of Topeka, Kansas.
