Horis Lee Davis, 78, died Monday, April 2, 2007 at his home. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 5 at the Clearfork Cemetery, with Rev. H.B. Terry officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
May 4, 1928, Horis was born the son of Virgil E. Davis and Linnie (Allred) Davis in Abilene, Texas. He was raised around Lubbock and graduated from Lueders High School. On July 18, 1948, Horis married Ollie Violet Bowman Petty in Lueders, Texas. He began his career as an electrician with National Electric Manufactures where he was employed for twelve years. He then worked for McMurry University for 6 and one-half years before going to work for Hardin-Simmons University in 1969. He retired from Hardin-Simmons in 1993 after twenty-five years of employment.
Preceding Horis in death were his parents, his twin sister, Doris Marie Davis, his sister, Edith Rowe Smith, and one granddaughter, Brenda Jeanette Huff. Horis is survived by his wife, Ollie of Abilene; two daughters, Cheryl Hodges and her husband Larry of Abilene, Brenda Borisow and her husband Alfred of Lanham, MD; two brothers, Clarence Davis and his wife Christine of Lubbock, Virgil Davis, Jr. and his wife Teresa of Pensacola, FL; his sister, Mary Leona Davis Karr and her husband Roy of Odessa; four grandchildren, Donna Hodges, Nick Borisow, Shawn Borisow and Larry R. Hodges; twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
