Homer Joseph Jannise

Homer Joseph Jannise, 95, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on June 4, 2023, in Abilene.

Graveside services will be held at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road, on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 2:00 pm.  Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Homer Jannise was born in Mowata, Louisiana to Alcie and Loris Jannise on February 12, 1928.  He married Arvella Jannise on July 6, 1954, in Elton Louisiana.  Homer was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, and proudly served in both the Navy and the Air Force.  After retiring from the Air Force, he then went to work for the Texas State Highway Department. Homer was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.  When he wasn’t doting on his family, he loved gardening, tending to his farm animals, watching old westerns, and listening to his Cajun music.

Homer was preceded in death by his spouse Arvella Jannise, parent Alcie and Loris Jannise, and his siblings Bessie, Sophie, Shelby, Mentor, Henry, and Marie Jannise.

Homer is survived by his sons, Michael and his spouse Norma of McKinney, Texas; Ricky of Abilene, and his two grandchildren Alyssa and Cameron also of McKinney.
