Herman R. Treadwell, 95, of Abilene died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center.
On September 22, 1918, Herman Treadwell was born in Jones County, Texas to Jess and Anne Treadwell. After high school in Hamlin, Texas, he attended Wayland Junior College for one year on a football scholarship.
In 1941 he left Wayland when his National Guard unit was called to active duty in the Army. Before he left for Europe on November 7, 1942, he married Loleta Ubben in Hamlin, Texas. They enjoyed 69 wonderful years together.
In Europe during World War II, he was a supply sergeant with the 36th Artillery Division serving in Italy, Southern France, Austria and Germany.
After the war, he returned to Hamlin where he became a Mason, worked for Banner Dairy, and in 1952 joined the Borden Co. He was promoted to General Plant Manager in Biloxi, Mississippi, a position he also held later in Phoenix, Arizona and Abilene, Texas. He was also a past president of the Dairy Industry association in Mississippi. After 32 years with the Borden Co., he retired in Abilene, Texas.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Loleta Treadwell; his parents, Jess and Anne Treadwell, two brothers, Lydon Treadwell and Jess Jr. Treadwell; and two sisters, Ava Street and Orlena DeBusk.
Herman is survived by his sister, Marguerite Blodgett; brother, Kenneth Treadwell; daughter, Lily Ann New and her spouse Barry of Plano, Texas; grandson, Jason New and wife Melissa of Frisco, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Collin and Elaina.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 1, in the First Baptist Church Chapel in Abilene with Dr. Phil Christopher and Rev. Palmer McCown officiating. Interment will follow in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery in Hamlin, Texas directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
