Helen Slough, 92, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 in Rockport, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Eula Cemetery, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Rev. David Cason will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Helen was born August 10, 1924 in Cottonwood, Texas to Ralph and Edith Brock. She graduated from Eula High School. Upon moving to Abilene, Helen worked for Radford Wholesale Grocers and attended Business College and then later Hardin-Simmons University.
She married Merl Slough on December 23, 1951. She was a stay-at-home mom until a hobby she had grew into a family owned printing business. Helen and Merl operated Slough Printing Company from the mid-1960's until selling and retiring in 1982. Mrs. Slough was a member of First Baptist Church of Eula, Texas until moving to Abilene to live at Royal Estates Retirement Center in 2001. In December of 2011 she moved to Rockport, Texas.
Mrs. Slough was preceded in death by her husband, Merl Slough, both of her parents and her sister, Ruth Scarbrough.
She is survived by one daughter, Merlene Flournoy and her husband Ted of Rockport; one son, Larry Slough and his wife Sandi of San Antonio; one brother, William Brock of Sweetwater; one sister, Rosa Lee McClure of Tuscola; five grandchildren, Brandon and Bryan Flournoy, Stefani Burkholder, Katy Reininger, and Amy Potter; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
