Hazyl Collins Lindley, 84, of Abilene passed away on January 30, 2014 in Abilene, Texas. Hazyl was born in Caddo, Texas, on January 26, 1930, to John Henry and Minnie Bradshaw Collins. Hazyl went to school in Midway, Caddo, Spade, Littlefield and graduated from Breckenridge High School in Breckenridge, Texas in 1947. Hazyl married A. L. Lindley in Breckenridge, Texas, on January 15, 1950. She started working for Southwestern Bell after graduating from High School and transferred her position to Abilene in July of 1954, where she continued working for Southwestern Bell for a total of 34 years. During her tenure at Southwestern Bell, she received a Diamond Pendant Necklace for 25 years Perfect Attendance, of which she was very proud. Hazyl was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Douglas and Russell Collins, two sisters, Wynelle Dodds and Shirley Power, and her husband, A. L. Lindley. She is survived by her son, Michael and his wife, Tonja, two grandsons, Hayden and his wife, Hannah, of Dallas, Texas, and Harrison of New Orleans, LA. Hazyl was a very active member of several organizations: Beta Sigma Phi for 58 years, a service sorority, Life member of the Telephone Pioneers, Volunteers at Hendrick Hospice Care, Volunteer at the Thrift House, previous member of the Abilene Garden Club, Abilene Woman’s Club, GRQ Investment Club, St. Margaret’s Guild at the Episcopal Church of Heavenly Rest, Lone Star Steppers line dancers at Rose Park, and belonged to several Bridge clubs through the years. Hazyl developed a love for cooking which she shared through her several organizations as treats and condiments. She could always pull a group together with her array of home-made recipes. She will be missed by many of her friends; she was once quoted by her son, Michael, as saying, “I love being alive so much, I don’t even like going to sleep at night!” Everyone enjoys being appreciated and Hazyl was appreciated by all those around her. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M., Sunday, February 2, 2014, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, TX. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, on Monday, February 3, 2014, at the Church of Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander, Abilene, TX. Burial will be at 3:30 pm in the Breckenridge Cemetery in Breckenridge, Texas. Donations and contributions may be made in Hazyl’s honor to Rescue The Animals at 4620 North 1st , Abilene, Texas, 79603.
