Hazel Davis, 82, passed away February 3, 2016 at the Hendrick Hospice Care inpatient unit in Abilene, Texas.
She was born Hazel Earline Sandlin in Manchester, Tennessee to Earl and Gladys Sandlin on November 10, 1933. She grew up in Manchester with grandparents, Perry and Hanna Stiver, and attended schools until she moved to Nashville, TN to attend college. There, she met the love of her life, James Davis. They were married March 10, 1953 in Mississippi. Together they moved many times throughout his military career, raising two daughters and settling in Abilene upon their retirement in 1973.
She enjoyed reading the Bible and worshipping her Lord and Savior. She also enjoyed crafting, sewing, gardening, her many flowers and plants, cooking and attending her daughters’ many activities of their youth. And, in later years, she continued to enjoy those activities as well as traveling and visiting grandchildren.
Hazel is survived by her husband of 64 years, James; two daughters, Becki Jean (Carlene), Melinda Lou (Steve); five grandchildren, Aaron, Casey, Joshua, Ciara and Stefan; six great-grandchildren, Cameron, Diego, Trinity, Sydney, Nate and Toby; and three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, two sisters and her special, beloved Pugsley the Precious.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 5, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Robert Lotzer officiating. Burial will follow in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene at 12 noon.
Serving as pallbearers will be Linwood Baker, Steven Perritano, Stefan Perritano, Aaron Wheeler and Neftali Zuniga.
