Harvey Mayfield, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the age of 81. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, July 18 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Jack Roseberry will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
Born in Jones County on May 4, 1927, Harvey was the son of the late Marvin and Ida (Storey) Mayfield. He married Dorothy Lee Roseberry on July 29, 1945 in Anson, Texas. She preceded him in death March 19, 2007. Harvey served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947. He was a Profile Machinist for General Dynamics for 31 years. Abilene has been Harvey's home since 1952, when he moved from Anson. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ida Mayfield; his wife, Dorothy Mayfield; one sister, Viola Howell; and three brothers, Vernon, Arnold and J.C. Mayfield. Harvey is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Greg Lemond, of Abilene, and Diane and Bryce Maryfield, of San Antonio; one sister, Lera Karp, of Sterling, Colorado; four grandchildren, Trey Maryfield and his wife Kim, Shannon Maryfield-Lamb, Christy Hernandez and her husband Roberto, and Chad Lemond; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Lamb, Brenden and Braylon Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roberto Hernandez, Chad Lemond, Trey Maryfield, J.J. Perez, Mick Clary and Chuck Lawson will serve as pallbearers.
