Harvey Lee Farthing Jr, 62, of Abilene, Texas, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 15, 2010, after a sudden illness due to cancer. He was surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Born in Danville, Virginia on April 20, 1948, he was the son of Harvey Lee Farthing Sr. and Onie (Oakes) Farthing. He was raised in Danville, Virginia and attended George Washington High School. He served for 23 years in the U.S. Air Force. During his military career, he lived in Cocoa Beach, Florida, San Antonio, Texas and Abilene, Texas before his retirement at Dyess AFB. Lee then worked as a Finance Manager with the Arrow Family where he stayed for 16 years. He was a member of Liberty Baptist church. He loved his family, friends and was an avid outdoorsman.
He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife Carol (Seghetti) Farthing, and on December 18th they would be celebrating their 40th Wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his mother Onie Farthing of Danville, Virginia; his sister, Laverne Riggan and husband David of Burlington, North Carolina; son, Harvey Lee Farthing III and wife LeAnn of Abilene, Texas; daughters, Sherry Lynn Farthing of Abilene, Texas and April Marie Roberts and husband Richard of Tuscola, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kelby, Hunter, Austin, Colten, Kaitlynn and Ashton.
The family expresses special thanks to the nurses and aids of Hendrick Hospice for their effort of providing Lee with care and comfort during his illness. The family requests that memorials be made to Hendrick Hospice at 1682 Hickory Street in Abilene, TX 79601.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, August 17 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, August 18 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with pastors Jeff Hatcher and Jamie McCravey officiating. A military honors memorial will follow at 2:00 PM at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 7457 West Lake Road.
