Harry D. Hamilton, 86, of Abilene, passed away December 8, 2015 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Visitation will be Thursday, December 10th from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, December 11th at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Reid, Rev. Stan Allcorn & Rev. Jack Ridlehoover officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Harry was born in Cherryvale, Kansas to Henry C. Hamilton & Verna Mae Hamilton on October 5, 1929. He graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1949 and attended Coffeyville Junior College. He married Shirlee M. Nixon on July 2nd 1950 at Cherryvale Methodist Church, Cherryvale, Kansas. He worked for several clothing factories as a sewing machine mechanic in Kansas. In 1968 he moved to Abilene, Texas to begin the process of opening Aileen, Inc. He served as head mechanic for Aileen, Inc. until 1978 when he began Hamilton Mfg. Co. in Abilene. In recent years and until his death he has operated Hamilton Sewing Service in Abilene. Harry deeply loved the Lord, family and friends and especially the children of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church where he had been a Sunday school teacher of 4 year-olds for 40 years. He was especially happy outdoors at his lake cabin with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son Stephen, his parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
He is survived by his wife Shirlee, a sister Bonnie Hannah of Nixa, Mo., one daughter Cindee Sokal and husband Paul of Dallas, 2 sons, Harry (Andy) Hamilton and wife, Shoyleen, of Katy, Texas, Paul Hamilton and wife, Robyn of Abilene, one daughter-in-law, Kathy Hamilton of Abilene. His grandchildren are Tique and Stacy Hamilton, Cade and Emily Hamilton, Ryan and Rachel Hamilton, Hailey and Brian Bain, Peter Sokal, Adam Sokal, Sheri and Todd Moebes, Amanda and Jason Ecrette, Clinton Hamilton, Arran Hamilton and 5 great-grandchildren, Presli, Kadon, Keeli, Mason and Jack.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Memorial may be given to Pioneer Drive Baptist Church preschool division, 701 S. Pioneer Dr. Abilene, TX 79605.
