Harold Paul Walker, 54, of Austin, Texas died July 26, 2012 at the Christopher House Hospice in Austin after a brief illness. Paul was born and reared in Abilene, Texas, graduating from Cooper High School in 1976. He was a software engineer for Solar Bridge, a company devoted to improving the planet through solar technology. He attended the University of Texas majoring in Physics and Electrical engineering. He had also worked at Advanced Micro Devices and Dell Computer. He owned a consulting firm in Austin specializing in internet securities.
Paul was an extraordinarily talented musician and his parents recognized this at a young age. He received his first piano at age 8 and composed his first concerto at 15. He enjoyed playing with a number of bands like "Hyatt" from his high school days in Abilene and carried through his adulthood by playing in Austin including "Bakin Brownies" and "Running From Noah." His greatest musical achievement, however, was an original CD of music he wrote, performed, and produced called "Recitations."
He loved sailing and had hoped to one day sail around the world. It was often said the ocean was his home. He loved the outdoors and made annual camping trips to the mountains in New Mexico. He had many accomplishments and excelled in everything he did. Most of all he loved all people, and his dry sense of humor endeared him to many.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harry Walker of Arlington; his father Harry Walker, Jr. of Abilene; his grandmothers, Verna Mae Ramsey of Abilene and Francis Walker of Arlington; and his uncle, Dr. William Walker of Auburn, Alabama.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara Walker Morris and her husband Harl of Abilene; his sister, Pamela Brown and her husband, Mark, of Abilene; and aunts, Myrna Walker of Auburn, Alabama, and Betty Adair and her husband, Jim, of Waco; and cousins, Forest Walker of Atlanta, Georgia, Audrey Rummele of The Hague, Netherlands and Wrey McCoy of Rockwell, Texas; and a special friend, Kristine Lily.
A memorial service will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, on Saturday, August 11th at 1:00 p.m.
Paul had a great love for animals and would be honored if memorials were made in his name to Rescue The Animals, 4620 North 1st, Abilene, TX 79603.
