Harold Jones, 77, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 in Abilene.
Born in Sipe Springs, Texas on May 5, 1935, Harold was the son of Thelma (Trice) and Melvin Gordon Jones. He served two tours of duty in the U. S. Army. Harold married Joyce JoAnn Tyler on May 12, 1956 in Cross Plains, Texas, and moved from Cross Plains to Abilene the same year.
He worked in oil field sales and operations for Dresser Atlas for over 35 years before retiring in 1992. After retirement he worked for Salta Pipe over eight years and then for Cowboy Pump & Supply.
Harold was an avid outdoorsman and was very involved in the activities of his sons and grandchildren. He was a very good dad. He was a member of Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene.
His parents and two brothers, Ray Jones and Glen Jones, preceded Harold in death.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Jones of Abilene; three sons and their wives, Randy Jones and DuAnn of Brownwood, Rodney Jones and Kathy of Frisco, and Nathan Jones and Allison of Crawford, Texas; two sisters, Betty Amy and husband George of Odessa, and Marilyn Thomson of San Angelo; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private interment service will be held in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 28, at Broadview Baptist Church with Rev. Wes Terry officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Edington, Zach Edington, Mark Tyler, Eric Tyler, Matt Reed, Cody Reed, Josh Jones, Wes Jones, Lance Jones, Brody Jones and Cahlynn Jones.
