H.B. Gist, 69, of Abilene passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at a local medical center. Graveside services will be held at Buffalo Gap Cemetery on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
August 28, 1938, H.B. was born in Robstown, Texas to Bomer and Maurine (Alston) Gist. He graduated from Abilene Christian University with a B.A. degree. August 1, 1966, H.B. married Karen Kersey in Bexar County. He taught school for nine years and later became a land developer.
In 2006, H.B. and Karen moved to Abilene from Montrose, Colorado. They are members of University Church of Christ.
H.B.'s father preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Abilene; his mother, Maurine Gist, of Atlanta, Texas; one son, Steven Gist and his wife Wendy, of Abilene; one daughter, Laura Gist, of Rome, Italy; one sister, Virginia Hooten and husband, Tom Hooten, of Atlanta, Texas; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Ann Marie Gist.
H.B. was a kind and devoted husband, son, brother, father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his love for people, humor, curiosity and sense of adventure. He was loved and respected by many for his Christ-like spirit and will be greatly missed.
