Guadalupe Rameriz “Wally” Sanchez, 74, died Monday, December 28, 2015 at an Abilene medical center.
Born the son of Aurora (Rameriz) and Victor Sanchez in Gonzalez, Texas on December 12, 1941, Wally as a small child moved with his family to Haskell, Texas where he was reared and graduated from Haskell High School. On October 6, 1962, he married Lydia Lopez in Haskell, and shortly thereafter in 1963, the couple moved to Abilene. In Abilene he worked for ABCO as warehouse manager, retiring after a career of 20 plus years with ABCO. Wally was a member of St Francis Catholic Church in Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Randy Sanchez.
Wally is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lydia Sanchez of Abilene; two daughters, Jo Helen Holguin and husband Hipolito, and Marissa Sanchez and Thomas Harrison, all of Abilene; two brothers, Jesse Sanchez and Ruben Sanchez of Abilene; and four sisters, Isabel Gomez and Patsy Elias both of Abilene, Margie Gomez of Fort Worth, and Lily Moreno of Stamford, Texas. Survivors also include six grandchildren, Camille Chavana and Matthew Blummer, Anthony Chavana, Nicole Sanchez, Nathaniel “Regal” Sanchez, Jessica “Jetty” Chavana, and Jairon Brannon; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at St. Francis Catholic Church, 826 Cottonwood in Abilene, with Father Kumar Jujjuvarapu officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Lopez, Chris Brannon, Ricky Holguin, Eddie Gomez, Michael Sanchez and David Rameriz.
