Heaven gained an angel on Wednesday morning January 27, 2016 when Greg Bradshaw was called home to rest in the arms of God.
Born November 15, 1956 at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, Texas to Bill and Chris Bradshaw, Greg grew up in Abilene and was a 1975 graduate of Cooper High School. He attended Baylor University and was a lifelong Baylor Bear fan. He graduated from McMurry University with a dual degree in Chemistry and Biology, and shortly thereafter he received a degree in Geology from Hardin-Simmons University. Once he found his niche in the oil business the sky was the limit. He learned all that there was to know about every aspect of the oil business including engineering and running his own successful company in operating and production. Greg worked hard, and over the years he was honored to have served as the Abilene Geological Society Vice President and Secretary.
Greg met the love of his life, Mendie, while attending Hardin-Simmons together. They were married on June 27, 1985 at Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene, Texas, making it 30 years of marriage in 2015. Greg and Mendie shared a passion for geology and often went on hunts for various rock specimens. They enjoyed traveling, hunting, entertaining, and laughing together. Many can agree that there was rarely a dull moment in the Bradshaw household, and Greg’s tremendous sense of humor and love for life had a lot to do with that. With his quick wit and charismatic personality it was hard to deny his friendship and company. He had so much love for his family and friends, and his outlook on life was always optimistic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, going to the horse races, playing a little blackjack and reading his bible in daily devotion.
Words cannot express how dearly he will be missed by his many friends and family members. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and grandfather “GG”. As a proud father and grandfather he was always involved in the activities of his children and grandchildren. He coached basketball, softball, powder puff football and taught his children and grandchildren how to golf, shoot, and fish. Greg always liked to brag that the teams he coached were undefeated. He loved to watch college and NFL football and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Above all else Greg loved the Lord and he wanted everyone else to share in his love for the Lord. His faith began at a young age and he was baptized at First Baptist Church. Attending church and teaching his daughters’ Sunday school classes were important to him as well as sharing his faith working several “walk to Emmaus” trips. He was still an active member of First Baptist Church of Abilene until his passing.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife Mendie Bradshaw of Abilene, Texas, daughter Amber Sanders and husband Steven of Abilene, Texas, daughter Jourdan Bradshaw of Abilene, Texas, sister Brenda Whisenhunt and husband Cliff Whisenhunt of Dallas, Texas, parents Chris and Bill Bradshaw of Abilene, Texas, grandchildren Briley and Brady Sanders of Abilene, Texas and niece and nephew Austin and Anna Whisenhunt of Dallas, Texas, along with numerus other beloved family members and dear friends.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, at 2502 Shoreline Drive.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, at First Baptist Church, Abilene with Dr. Phil Christopher and Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
