A Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Saturday, May 4, 2024 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Jeff Thompson (Grandson) officiating. A private burial will precede the Memorial Service.
Grady was born in the Drasco community near Winters, Texas to Will and Linnie Dorsett on March 22, 1934. He married Evelyn Tinker on September 4, 1954 at First Baptist Abilene, with Dr. Elwin L. Skiles officiating. Grady was a self-made man, coming from a meager background. He was 17 when his father died, so he became the man of the house. After attending Hardin Simmons and McMurry, he gained his CPA license in 1964. He achieved all of this while working full-time, raising a family, and taking care of his mother. He enjoyed his long career as a Certified Public Accountant and considered his clients his friends also. He was actively involved at First Baptist Church in Abilene, and served as a deacon. He also used his talents serving on the church's budget and finance committees. He was a dedicated member of the Abilene Founders Lions Club. He was a fifty plus year member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Grady was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Faircloth, of Baird, Texas.
Grady is survived by his wife, Evelyn Dorsett, and his three children - Terri Thompson (Steve), Darrell Dorsett (Karla), and Dana Stevens (James). He has eight grandchildren - Jeff Thompson (Sarah), Jason Thompson (Kelli), Amy Wilson (Wes), Jacob Haynes (Maddi), Jared Stevens, Marina Stevens, Tabitha Stevens, and Adella Stevens. He also has eight great-grandchildren (number 9, Lexi Wilson, due in October) - Judah Thompson, Elias Thompson, Hope Thompson, Melanie Wilson, Hallie Haynes, Jensen Haynes, Xaileigh Hollingshead, and River Hollingshead.
