Grace (Gracie) King, 89, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 in Tuscola, Texas.
Grace was born in Louisville, Kentucky to William and Cova Rouse on August 7, 1927, and attended school in Davis County, Kentucky. She married Miller King in Abilene, Texas on her birthday, August 7th.
Grace worked for Dillard's Department Store for 12 years before she retired, having worked in dresses and the jewelry department. Grace was known for her expert sense of humor and always dressed like a queen with every color of hat you could imagine. She loved wearing lots of jewelry and her visits to the Mall of Abilene. She loved collecting jewelry, dolls, and glassware. She was always hunting a bargain. Grace also worked at the Dixie Pig Restaurant as a waitress (1960-1970). She was a member of Wylie Baptist Church. She loved to sing at nursing homes and was a familiar entertainer at Heffs Burgers.
Grace was preceded in death by her spouse of 32 years, Miller King; and many brothers and sisters, including Reuben Rouse and Calvin Rouse. She is survived by her close friend, Brenda Heffernan; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Lynn Rouse Oglesby, Mike Rouse, Charles Rouse, James Rouse and Cova Watkins.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 17, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, at Wylie Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Brian Heffernan, Chris Heffernan, Brandon McKelvain, Rick Walters, Justin Santos and Jimmy Crain. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Heffernan, Dudley Longacre and Harold Josie.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
