Grace Marie Heatly Bright, 93, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021. She was born on Monday, July 16, 1928 in Crawford, TX to Aubry and Johnnie Heatly.
Visitation hours will be Thursday, September 9 from 6 pm until 8 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services will be held at 9 am on Friday, September 10 at Trent Garden of Memories, with Bro. David Cason officiating.
Grace married James Pershing Bright on November 11, 1944 in Sweetwater, TX, and they spent just short of 75 years together until his passing on July 23, 2019. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and the Candle Lighters Class at St. James United Methodist Church. Grace repaired dolls and was known as the “Doll Doctor.” She was a very hard worker: some of her many jobs included working at a daycare, doing laundry for neighbors, cleaning her local church, working in the cafeteria in the Seminole School District, and she also did volunteer work as a cook and organizer for the Seminole Lyons Club for 11 years. She did not associate with laziness, so her work history continues with running a stamp store, working at a funeral home in Seminole, and also as a seamstress in a dress shop. Grace’s family is very proud of her many hard working years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Bright, four sisters, and six brothers.
Grace is survived by her son, J. Glen Bright and wife Brenda; son, Henry Ed Bright and wife Hazel; daughter, Gwen Unger; sisters, Nelda Hobbs, Sherry Fellars, and Emma Lois Shuggart; eight grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
