Gordon Montgomery, 85, died Thursday, January 7, 2010, at an Abilene medical center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stan Allcorn officiating, assisted by Rev. John Curry. Interment will follow in Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
Gordon was the son of Thelma Gertrude (Webber) and Lindsey Houston Montgomery, born on September 24, 1924 in Blackwell, Texas. In Blackwell, he graduated from high school and married LaNelle Griffin on December 14, 1943. Gordon served in the U. S. Army from 1944 to 1946, and during the Korean Conflict. He worked 35 years for Lone Star Industries in Maryneal, Texas. He was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.
His grandson, Wade Kinerd; parents; and one brother, Lindsey Burl Montgomery, preceded him in death.
Gordon is survived by his wife, LaNelle Montgomery of Abilene; daughters, Sharon Kinerd of Abilene, and Carolyn Sue Buccieri and husband, "Rich" of Austin; sister-in-law, Jean Montgomery of Abilene; three grandchildren, Bryan Buccieri and wife, Mary Beth, Gina Buccieri and Keri Murphy and husband, Shelby; and five great-grandchildren, Devin Wade Kinerd, Cameron Buccieri, Ethan Buccieri, Preston Wade Murphy and James Montgomery Murphy.
Gordon was a loving husband, father and PaPaw. He will be missed greatly.
