Gordon Asbury, Jr. was relieved of his battle with cancer on July 16, 2009. His family and, of course, many friends lost a faithful, loyal, patriotic citizen. He died at home, surrounded by the immediate family, caretaker, Ms. Nickie Trammell and loyal farmhand and friend of over 35 years, Jose Carreon.
Gordon was born in Pecos, Texas on November 16, 1930 to Mr. and Mrs. G.G. Asbury, Sr. and moved to Abilene in 1942. His life was characterized by faith, love of country and family. He was known for his personal and professional integrity. Gordon's academic accomplishments began with graduation from Abilene High School (1948) and Hardin-Simmons (1952) while working at Mrs. Baird's Bakery. He took a break from his education to serve in the United States Navy. Gordon completed pilot training and earned his Naval Aviator's "Wings of Gold" in 1953 at the conclusion of the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Gordon continued his education at Baylor University School of Law, where he served as a member of the Baylor Law Review, and graduated with an L.L.B. in 1957. He was married in Abilene to Janice Jennings on December 22, 1955. In 1961, Gordon opened his private law practice in Abilene. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1974. In 1994, Gordon and his son, Gordon Asbury III, a graduate of Baylor School of Law, formed the Abilene based law firm of Asbury & Asbury, LLP, where they practiced law together until present.
Gordon and Janice built their home at Quail Hollow Farm in 1968. He was a student of history, aviation and World War 1I, assembling a private WW II library of over 3,000 volumes.
Gordon's parents preceded him in death. His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janice; daughter, Elizabeth Sims, her husband Dean, and their children, Jacob and Sarah of Fairfax, VA.; son, Gordon Asbury Ill, his wife Aloma, and their children, Andrew, Bryan and Caleb of Abilene; one brother, Larry Asbury of Dallas; mother-in-law Elizabeth Jennings of Abilene; sister-in-law Barbara Jennings of Lake Belton; plus a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial gifts can be made to the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, 328 E. Main, Fredericksburg, TX 78624, or to Focus on the Family, Colorado Springs, CO.
Gordon always made his points concisely. In this light, his life can be described in these words: "Faith in Almighty God, Family and Country, steadfast to the end".
Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.... Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverb 1: 5, 3:5-6
