Goldie Hallford Monroe, 87, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at an Abilene nursing center.
The daughter of Lorea (Seymore) and Thomas Andrew Hallford, Goldie was born on September 9, 1926 in Brown County, Texas, and graduated from Bangs High School. She married S. D. Monroe, Jr. on January 14, 1955 in Tuscola, Texas. She was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 30 years. Goldie was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.
Her parents and two brothers, Tommy Hallford and Robert “Skeeter” Hallford, preceded her in death.
Goldie is survived by her husband, S. D. Monroe, Jr. of Abilene; daughter, Debbie Alexander and husband Steve of Granbury, Texas; two brothers and spouses, Ben Hallford and Ann of Keller, and David Hallford and Candy of Abilene; sister, Johnnie Goforth and husband John of Aledo, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews including her niece, Carolyn Atkins and her husband Chris of Lawn.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, officiated by Rev. Jack Ridlehoover and Dr. Jeff Reid. Interment will follow in Buffalo Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
