Glenda Gail Pistocco Montfort peacefully went to be with her Lord on January 6, 2019, at the age of 85. Glenda was born on October 8, 1933, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Myrtle Leona Payne Pistocco and Joseph J. Pistocco. Glenda grew up in Wichita Falls surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, life-long friends, and a close-knit church family. While in Wichita Falls, she married Kenneth Lee Montfort in the First Baptist Church on May 25, 1954, and they remained married for 56 years – their marriage was a life-long “love affair.” From Wichita Falls, the couple moved to Albany, a town they grew to love, and then settled in Abilene where they lived from 1972 for the rest of their lives.
Glenda and Kenneth raised four children. Kenneth engaged in farming and ranching enterprises, and Glenda’s main interests were her home, children, and church. Her hobby and love was working in her yard watching everything grow and bloom. She saw God’s beautiful world and thrived being outside. She also loved to read, and donated countless hours as an avid volunteer for not only her church but her community. Her bridge groups were very special to her, for not only the friendships she cultivated, but the friendly competition amongst her friends. Both Glenda and Kenneth were members of the Beacon Sunday School Class at St. Paul United Methodist Church - their church family was very important to them.
Glenda is survived by her four children, Karen Montfort Pena of Gorman, Helen Watson and her husband Bob, of Clear Lake, Brenda Montfort-Ucherek and husband Bill, of Dallas, Paul Montfort of Abilene; and her six grandchildren, Stacey Sliger and her husband Claren, Amanda Watson, Rebecca Watson, Nicholas Ucherek, Jared Ucherek, Walker Ucherek; and 2 great-grandchildren Caleb and Ava.
Glenda is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother. A graveside service was held on January 8th officiated by Jim Hargrove. A celebration of Glenda’s most wonderful life was held at the Woodlands Assisted Living Facility. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Glenda’s family would also like to specially thank the caregivers at the Woodlands. They loved Glenda as much as her family and friends and provided her great happiness in the last years of her life. They are angels on earth. Thanks goes out to the staff at Interim Hospice Abilene, who are also wonderful.
