Gladys B. Ward Carter, 90, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006 at a nursing center in Abilene, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
Gladys was born on March 28, 1916 in Lohn, Texas to C.D. and Josie (Butler) Bolding. While living in Brady, Texas, Gladys worked at J.C. Penny and managed the Melvin School Cafeteria. She was the first woman juror from McCulloch County. She moved from Brownwood, Texas to Abilene in 1991. Gladys was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her first husband, Ismal "Beat-All" Ward in 1983, and her second husband, Curtis Carter in 1989. Gladys is survived by two sons, Marion Ward of Buchanan Dam, Texas and Teddy V. Ward of San Angelo, Texas; two sisters, Beth Swenning and Pat Hartt both of Seattle, Washington; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
