Gertie Teaff

July 30, 1932 — March 14, 2025

While living in Millersview, Texas, A.M. and Gertrude Wilson gained a bright soul on July 30, 1932, when their beloved daughter, Gertie, was born. On March 14, 2025, at the age of 92, she peacefully entered Heaven and into eternity, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and joy that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

On April 27, 1952, she married the love of her life, Harold Teaff, and together they built a home filled with warmth, faith, and laughter. Their love story was one of devotion—rooted in God, family, and the simple joys of life. Harold passed away too soon in 1987.

A woman of unwavering faith, Gertie was a devoted Christian who found joy in serving her family, her church, and her community. She had a gift for nurturing—whether it was the flowers in her garden, the meals she lovingly prepared, or the people she held close to her heart. She welcomed everyone with open arms, and her laughter—oh, how people loved her laugh! It was full and contagious, the kind that could brighten any day.

She cherished her family deeply, and in return, they adored her. Whether through quiet prayers, gentle wisdom, or an encouraging smile, she uplifted those around her. She was the person you called for a recipe, a piece of advice, or simply to hear the comforting sound of her laughter.

In addition to being the heart of her home, Gertie was a dedicated and hardworking professional. She spent many years working in the automobile industry, handling title work and managing offices for dealerships including Ford, Dodge, Cadillac, and Toyota. Later, she worked for Pride Pipeline, where she dedicated over 20 years of service, earning the respect and admiration of all. Never one to sit still after retirement, she volunteered with RSVP, traveled to 49 states with Bilbrey Tours, enjoyed senior activities at Rose Park, and was a member of the Primetimers at Pioneer Drive, where she was a faithful member of the church and the Loveshine Class for 48 years.

Her absence leaves an ache in our hearts, but her love lingers in all who met her, in the traditions and faith she passed down, and in the joy, she spread so effortlessly. Though she has gone ahead to her eternal home, her legacy remains—growing, flourishing, and reminding us of a life well-loved and well-lived.

She is survived by daughter Venita Teal, husband Ron; son Rodger Teaff, wife Ginger; grandchildren, Jeffrey Teal and Caroline, Jackson Teal and Lindsey, Bailey Smith and Tanner, Grayson Teaff and fiancé Grace; and great-grandson Kellen Smith who will all carry her love forward. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.M. and Gertrude Wilson; husband Harold Teaff; and sister Cleta Beall.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Lyndale Abilene Memory Care and Hendrick Hospice for their passionate care of Gertie.

Visitation will be Friday, March 21, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. A graveside service will be held at Merkel Rose Hill Cemetery on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of her life at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m., where we will gather to honor the woman who gave so much and asked for so little.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a meal with someone you love, or laugh just a little louder—just as she would have wanted. Memorials may be given to Pioneer Drive Baptist Church’s Next 70 building fund in her memory.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
