Geraldine Shultz

1917 — August 6, 2010

Geraldine McCaleb "Gerry" Shultz, 93, died Friday, August 6, 2010 at a private residence following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Col. V. M. "Dutch" Shultz. She is survived by three sisters: her identical twin, Maxine Hill of Abilene, TX, D'Nola Holding, also of Abilene, and Robbe Baldwin of Holyoke, CO. She is also survived by two sons, Landon Terry of Austin, TX and George Robert of The Woodlands, TX. She leaves eight grandchildren and step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, eight nieces and nephews and a loving extended family. Gerry graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1938 and proudly served alongside her husband during his 30 year career in the U. S. Army. She and Dutch served tours in more than 30 locations including Ft. Sill, OK, London, England, Ottawa, Canada and Arlington, VA before retiring to Abilene. After retirement, Gerry served her community as a Red Cross volunteer at the Dyess Air Force Base hospital for twenty years. Mrs. Shultz was a member and former Sunday School Teacher at Abilene's First Christian Church. Gerry Shultz was a National Treasure: she brought blessings and sunshine everywhere she went; she treated everyone she met as being special and important; she was always appreciative and thankful; and she exemplified the joy and service of the Christian life. Her interment at Elmwood Memorial Park was private. A Memorial Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, August 14th at 1:30 PM at the First Christian Church, 1420 North 3rd Street in Abilene, 79601. Dr. Landon T. Shultz of Austin will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to the First Christian Church in Abilene or Bluebonnet Hills Christian Church, 10206 Aqua Verde Court, Austin, TX 78733.
