Gerald Stayton

Gerald J. “Jerry” Stayton, 76, of Abilene, passed away surrounded by his family in the early morning of September 24th 2014 in Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd, Abilene on Friday, 26 September, from 5:00-7:00 pm. A graveside service will be conducted at the Dudley Cemetery, FM 1178, Abilene, on Saturday, 27 September at 10:00 am. Greg Melton, Minister at Hwy 36 Church of Christ will officiate. Jerry Stayton, the eldest of 3 sons was born to James A. and Mary J. Stayton on March 12, 1938 in Beaumont, TX. He attended Brazosport High School, Brazoria County, TX. He married his best friend and true love, Wanda L. (Smith) Stayton on December 31, 1960. Jerry Stayton served in the Texas Army National Guard for over 20 years and retired a Master Sergeant. He also retired from Federal Technician Service after 20 years. He worked for Allen Wireline Service for 10 years and later began self-employment as an independent contract pumper. Jerry loved the outdoors and his work in the oil and gas industry. Most recently, he was better known as the owner and operator of Jerry’s Gun Shop, where he enjoyed visiting with friends, customers and the “just looking”. He has served on the Eula school board, and attended Hwy 36 Church of Christ. He loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Stayton; brothers, Ronnie and wife Lena Stayton of Brazoria, TX and Kenneth and wife Terri Stayton of Angleton, TX; children, Gerald and Pamela Stayton of Austin, Ricky and Georgania Stayton of Abilene, and Kathy and Kevin Carroll of North Richland Hills; grandchildren, including Jennifer Stayton, Emilee Stayton, Casey and Shayleen Stayton, Kelcie Stayton, Kason Carroll, Kastin Carroll; and 3 great grandchildren, Kaley, Jordan, and Raiden.
