George Ogdee, 93, formerly of San Benito, Texas, went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 6, 2012, in Abilene, Texas His memorial service will be held at All Saint's Episcopal Church in San Benito, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, with interment to follow immediately afterwards at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Henry Thomae Funeral Home, 701 N. Bowie St. in San Benito, is in charge of arrangements.
George was born February 11, 1919, in San Antonio, Texas. He moved to San Benito when he was six months old. He attended school in San Benito, graduating from San Benito High School. George then attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1942. His entire class graduated, and then went directly to serve in World War II.
He served his entire time in the Pacific Theater, while commanding the Artillery Pacific Battery in Hawaii, Leyte, and Saipan. After the war, he returned to San Benito where he owned two men's stores. He is best known as owner of George's Men's Wear for 33 years.
George was very active in the community in San Benito. He was a football referee for 39 years, being highly involved with the Southwest Football Official Association. He was president of that organization. He was also the president of the San Benito Chamber of Commerce, San Benito Kiwanis Club, and the Rio Grande Valley Shriner's Club. He was also the oldest member of All Saint's Episcopal Church, having been a member for 80 years. He had been a resident of Abilene since 2009.
But George's best accomplishments were being a loving husband of 59 years, a father of three boys, and grandfather of three. He loved them all.
His parents, Jack and Foutine Ogdee, a sister Helen Ogdee, and a son, George Edward "Eddie" Ogdee, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lucie Ogdee of Bellaire, TX and Bobby and Brenda Ogdee of Abilene, TX; three grandchildren, Alexandria, Alec and Noelle Ogdee; and one brother, Ed Ogdee of San Benito.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Memorial Fund at All Saints Episcopal Church in San Benito.
