George Morris, 86, of Abilene, Texas, passed away at his home on March 9, 2025, following a courageous fight with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Billy Crim of Wylie Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, 5701 US Highway 277 South. Arrangements are with The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
George was born in Carbon, Texas to Roy and Rita (George) Morris on July 9, 1938. He married Sue Guest on December 20, 1958, in Abilene. George spent nearly 30 years working in the oilfields in Texas, Michigan, Wyoming, and New Mexico, often moving his family with him. At times, the family would remain in Abilene, and he would only see them occasionally due to the demands of his job. After working in the oilfield, George began his employment with Batjer and Associates where he worked for 25 years as journeyman plumber until his retirement. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, serving on multiple committees and assisting with various maintenance projects as needed. He loved Louis L'Amour, playing dominos, working jigsaw puzzles, and searching for treasures while on walks in the park near his home. George devoted many years to caring for his beloved Sue at home, supporting her through her battle with Alzheimer's until her passing in 2016.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue; three brothers, Roy C., L. D., and Mickey Morris; four sisters, Nadine Allen, LaVern Wood, Wanda Drake and Peggy Hand.
Survivors include his sons, Randy (Dixie) and David Morris; grandchildren, Marcus (Tori) and Caitlin Morris; great grandchildren, Jack and Ruby Morris, and sister-in-law Jane Morris.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Morris, Kevin Taylor, Sean McNeil and Jim Robertson.
