Nick Davis, 63, died on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Baylor Cancer Hospital in Dallas after a 16-month battle with Leukemia. Services will be held Sunday, December 30th, at 2:00 p.m. in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas, with Mickey Early officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas.
Nick was born on August 14, 1949 to Mary Belle Duty Davis and William L. (Dub) Davis of Merkel. He was a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, and except for his college days he was a lifelong Taylor County resident. He had retired from the Texas Railroad Commission last year to work with his wife as a consultant in the oil industry. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Nick was one of the most caring, loyal, hard-working people you could ever hope to know. He would help anyone with a project, especially if it was raising funds to help children. He spent years serving others by working with charity golf tournaments and more recently clay shooting events that benefited the Ben Richey Boys Ranch. His tireless efforts to raise funds for the boys will certainly be missed.
Nick was preceded in death by his father, William L. Davis, and is survived by his mother, Mary Belle Davis of Merkel. He is also survived by his wife of 38 years, Margaret, and his son, Shawn, both of Abilene; his brother, Jimmy of Merkel and wife Jean; his brother, Ray of Weatherford and wife Brenda; his sister-in-law whom he thought of as the sister he never had, Joy Lynn Stinson of Rotan; four nieces, Wendy Reed, Jennifer Davis, Lucy Stinson and Lesley Hodges; three nephews, Reggie Stinson, Jason Davis and Lane Hicks; three great-nieces, Sophie Jones, Elle Stinson and Devin McQueen; seven great-nephews, Connor, Cameron and Caden Reed, Hunter and Hudson Hodges, Jake Stinson and Colin Weaver Hicks, as well as many cousins and friends whom he cared for deeply.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ben Richey Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 6839, Abilene, TX 79608; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
