George Ballard Crain, Jr., of Abilene, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at the age of 67. Funeral services were at 10:00 am on Friday, November 2, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas.
Born February 11, 1940 in Comstock, Texas, George was the son of George Ballard Crain, Sr. and Dorothy Lorraine (Miller) Crain. He graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1958. George worked as the shop foreman for Key Energy Services for six years, Bechtel Incorporated for seven years, and B.J. Hughes for ten years. He enjoyed restoring vintage cars, riding his motorcycle and loved the great outdoors. George was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Breckenridge.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara Ann Crain, in 2001. He is survived by his stepmother, Margie Crain of Coleman; one son, Chad Crain and wife Tarra, of Abilene; one daughter, Sherry Foster and husband Aaron, also of Abilene; four brothers, Johnny Crain and wife Sherry, of DeHanis, Texas, Jeff Crain and wife Janet, of Dilley, Texas, Smokey Crain and wife Kathy, of Hydro, Oklahoma, and Bubba Crain, of Sonora, Texas; four sisters, Lanelle Douglas and husband Pat, of Fort Worth, Billie Jean and husband Gary, of Amarillo, Georgeanna Cheves and husband Jimmy, of Pahuska, Oklahoma, and Weida Sue Crain of Coleman; six grandchildren, Briana, Jay, Eli, Eathan, Cheyanne and Zach.
Scott Dalton, Ken Pittman, Ross Douglas, Chris McMahan, Tye Jackson and Nick Cope will serve as pallbearers.
