George Ellis Cox, 93, of Abilene passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Memorial Services will be held on April 25, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery in Abilene with Dr. Jeff Reid, officiating.
George was born on November 28, 1928, in Moultrie, Georgia to the late James Robert Cox and Bessie Mae Suggs. He graduated from Moultrie High School where he was voted most athletic. George married Hattie Mae Hughes, his high school sweetheart, on August 16, 1950. George served in the United States Army stationed in Japan. He had many fond memories and stories from his time there. George spent most of his career working as a regional sales manager for Swift Premium & Company. George had a gift of gab which made him a natural salesman. He won the national salesman award many times during his career. George was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir and taught bible study for many years. George loved his family and his Lord. The world needs more men like George. His children have been blessed to be guided by him.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Hattie.
Survivors include two sons, George Larry Cox and wife Carolyn and Bobby Eugene Cox and his wife Lisa all of Abilene; one daughter Gina Carol Halliburton and husband Cole of Plano, Texas. Nine grandchildren, Matthew Cox,
Hayley Halliburton, Cole Halliburton III, Kaitlin Cox, Trevor Cox, Kylie Cox, Hailey Dods, Elijah Dods and Abigayle Boske. George is also survived by one brother James Ronnie Cox and wife Vanna of Albany, Georgia.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, Abilene.
