Gary’s life began on February 11, 1940 in Borger, Texas to Roger and Maude Yungblut. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1958 after first attending Plemmons School on the Gulf Dial where he loved to hunt and roam with friends when they weren’t playing basketball. He was in the United States Navy from 1960-1964, later earning his BS in Finance from Texas Tech University.

Gary married the love of his life, Jerilynn McPherson on January 20, 1962 in Big Spring,Texas after meeting her in a Botany Class at Texas Tech. They raised three children in Abilene, Texas. He was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church since 1969, often watching televised services from their ranch in Scurry County. He worked for General Electric Credit Corporation and Thornton’s Department Store before going on to make a career in commercial banking in Abilene. He enjoyed seeing businesses thrive that he financed and never forgot a friend.

Gary was bird dogs and pickup trucks, baked potatoes and ribeye. He was sweet tea and chewing tobacco, dark suits and silk ties. He was circling up for prayers and second desserts. He was Red Raider and basketball, old hymns and singing loud. He was country road and world traveler, outrageous stories and “Oh Poppa!” He was teasing the grandkids, long hugs, and “thank-you, darlin.” He was “up and at’em" and checking on cows, looking at wild grasses and picking up rocks. He was the center of his family.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jerilynn of 59-years; three children, Scott Yungblut and wife Pamela of Abilene, Cherisse Flanagan and husband Danny of Abilene, and Traci Kidwell and husband Casey of The Colony, Texas;  grandchildren Hillary Yungblut Lavender, Cooper Yungblut, Hannah Flanagan Bondoc, Alexa Kidwell, Kyla Flanagan and Luke Kidwell; and great granddaughter Rylee Lavender. He also leaves his sister, Rogenna Hanson and nieces Christie and Sandie Wislicenus. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Maude Yungblut and his granddaughter, Bailey Brooke Flanagan.

Pallbearers will be Weldon Beck, Milton Hoff, Bob O’Neal, and Loren Wilson.

Memorials will be given to the Alzheimer’s Association and St. Paul UMC in Abilene. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hendrick House Calls and Visiting Angels.
