Gary Mues, 73, of Abilene passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Friday, January 15th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene with Randy Estes officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Road, Abilene, TX at 11:00 A.M.
Gary was born in Nebraska to Earl and Harriett Mues. In his early career, he worked in the oil and gas industry and finished his working days as greens keeper/maintenance for a golf course. Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Constellation during the Vietnam Conflict.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Olivia and their daughter, Michelle Mues of Abilene. Also surviving Gary is his son, John Mues of Centennial, Colorado; Brother James Mues & wife Linda of Las Cruces, New Mexico; sister Marianne Mock of San Angelo. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law, Refugio Barrera & wife Elizabeth of Horizon City; Hortensia Jones & husband Vance of Balmorhea; Martha Molinar & husband Manuel of Van Horn and Harvey Barrera of San Angelo. Surviving Gary are numerous nieces and nephews who will forever remember their fun-loving uncle.
Gary was a lifetime Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, Nascar fan, music fan and in his earlier, healthier years enjoyed hunting and golfing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jean.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. John Wray, Dr. Amelia Yeh, Dr. Victor Hudman, Dr. Maslanka, Dr. Beau McCrory; the nurses on 2nd and 5th floor of Abilene Regional Medical Center along with the Respiratory Therapists, Physical and Occupational Therapists; Hendrick Home Health nurses and therapists who so compassionately cared for Gary. The family would also like to extend special thanks to all their friends, neighbors, work families and everyone who has been so thoughtful and kind during this difficult time.
